When I signed on with KAAM 770 Legends Radio to create an animal/ veterinary care related radio show for the listeners, I had hoped to create a program to help people with their animals’ healthcare, their own healthcare, and to introduce people, products and processes which I have seen produce success (let’s define it as resolution of a problem here!) and hopefully inspire someone to pursue their passion and ambition in some facet of the animal industry. As I have learned more about the reach of podcasting and have explored my own passions, I realize how blessed and fortunate I have been in making the friends and connections throughout the veterinary and horse world, the riches they bring to my life, and the messages and wisdom they have to share. While I knew my long time friend Tom McCutcheon could provide more insight into the world of reining horses than anyone else on the planet , you can hear his passion, the impact and humility the success he has enjoyed on a world stage has had upon him that makes me so proud to be able to share a little of his story with you. Most exciting, we visited after the show and may very well have some incredible opportunities to share with you in the very near future…once he and his wife, Mandy, return from France and the 2014 World Equestrian Games, with more GOLD MEDALS around their necks!
There are pearls of wisdom and interest throughout this interview, but the thing that keeps resonating with me is how it was Tom’s dad, and his love and enthusiasm for horses that got him started, and the emphasis that he walked away with from his youth. “Regardless of the situation, YOU have to figure it out, there are no excuses…”. That is the creed of a winner. Now, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to figure it all out on your own, no one is born into the world with all of the answers to all of the situations and problems life will present. To have the humility and wisdom to seek help, advice, mentoring from someone who may have had the similar experience before is as important a part of problem solving as figuring it out on your own. It will be YOU who makes the final decision, the final choice, and it is those choices that will determine your actions which will determine your results, which ultimately determine your life. One of my most admired and respected qualities of people in agriculture is their resourcefulness and ability to use often limited resources to solve problems. And while we must first learn to solve our own problems, and take accountability for our own actions, it is gaining the ability to help others solve their problems that brings life’s greatest rewards.
Animals are amazing and the people that interact with them regularly continue to amaze me, and , in fact, there is substantial research being done which is proving the benefit of animals to people both in health and disease, in youth and in the senior years. One of the problems I hope to help solve with this show is introducing to you the people, products and processes which you can trust and enhance, or even begin to develop, your interaction with an animal or enterprise that maybe you just haven’t quite had the confidence to pursue. Tom and Team McCutcheon have developed an amazing website http://www.virtualhorsehelp.com. Go there, join (FREE!!!!), follow them on their trip through the 2014 World Equestrian Games, and learn from and enjoy the expertise they have assembled. Go TEAM USA!!! Thanks for stopping by!
